The St. Seiriol started life as a passenger ship for the Liverpool & North Wales Steamship Company but at the end of 1915 she was requisitioned by the Royal Navy for use as a Minesweeper and became HMS St. Seiriol. On 25th April, 1918, while operating in the North Sea, she herself hit a mine laid by the German submarine UC-4, near the North Shipwash Light Vessel, Harwich and sank. Twelve of her crew, including Reginald Chapelle, lost their lives in this incident. |
